Approximate blocking probabilities in loss models with independence and distribution assumptions relaxed

چکیده
Effective approximations are developed for the blocking probability in a general stationary loss model, where key independence and exponential-distribution assumptions are relaxed, giving special attention to dependence among successive service times, not studied before. The new approximations exploit heavy-traffic limits for the steady-state number of busy servers in the associated infinite-server model with the same arrival and service processes. In addition, a new heavy-traffic approximation is developed for the long-run proportion of time that all servers are busy. These new approximations are then combined to develop new approximations for the separate blocking probabilities of individual arrival streams in multiclass loss models. Simulation experiments show that these approximations are effective.

The Concept of Sub-independence and Its Application in Statistics and Probabilities
Many Limit Theorems, Convergence Theorems and Characterization Theorems in Probability and Statistics, in particular those related to normal distribution , are based on the assumption of independence of two or more random variables. However, the full power of independence is not used in the proofs of these Theorems, since it is the distribution of summation of the random variables whic...
متن کاملBlocking Probabilities in Mobile Communications Networks with Time-Varying Rates and Redialing Subscribers
Call-blocking probabilities are among the key performance measures in mobile communications networks. For the analysis of these blocking probabilities, mobile networks can be modelled as networks of Erlang loss queues with common capacity restrictions dictated by the distribution of frequencies over the cells of the network. However, due to the time-varying load offered to the cells of such net...
متن کاملMonte Carlo Comparison of Approximate Tolerance Intervals for the Poisson Distribution
The problem of finding tolerance intervals receives very much attention of researchers and are widely used in various statistical fields, including biometry, economics, reliability analysis and quality control. Tolerance interval is a random interval that covers a specified proportion of the population with a specified confidence level. In this paper, we compare approximate tolerance interva...
متن کاملExponential Models: Approximations for Probabilities
Welch & Peers (1963) used a root-information prior to obtain posterior probabilities for a scalar parameter exponential model and showed that these Bayes probabilities had the confidence property to second order asymptotically. An important undercurrent of this indicates that the constant information reparameterization provides location model structure, for which the confidence property ...
متن کاملA Simplified Blocking Probability Calculation in the Retry Loss Models for Finite Sources
We consider the single and multi-retry loss models for finite sources (f-SRM, f-MRM, respectively) in which calls of K service-classes are accommodated in a link of capacity C and compete for the available bandwidth under the complete sharing (CS) policy. Blocked calls can immediately retry one or more times to be connected in the system with reduced bandwidth and increased service time require...
